For a brief but unforgettable chapter of my life, I had the honour of playing guitar for the British band Saiphon. It was an incredible experience, these musicians are seriously talented, passionate, and a joy to work with.
It all began back in 2023 at a jam night at The Hole in the Wall in Chichester. That’s where I first met Jude, Saiphon’s bassist. After my set, he complimented my vocals, we shared a few laughs, and quickly hit it off. At the time, I was forming a band to tour my album “Call It Rock and Roll” around England, and Jude offered to play bass. Unfortunately, due to some personal setbacks, that project never quite took off but our friendship stuck.
Through Jude, I was introduced to Bennie Hayfield, and honestly, this guy radiates talent. Every note, every lyric he writes is infused with raw passion. He’s a poetic songwriter with real ambition, and we immediately connected over our shared drive to make music that means something. We spent time recording demos and running through lyrics, building a musical partnership I truly valued. When I moved to Vancouver in June 2024, that collaboration came to a pause, but Bennie and I kept in touch. So when he found out I was returning to England, he and I discussed an exciting opportunity, a chance to join Saiphon.
What started as a one-off trial gig at The Station in Bognor Regis turned into something much more. That night was electric. We even performed my original track “Out of Order”, and the audience response was incredible. After that, I was officially in the band. Sadly, with my return to Vancouver on the horizon, my time with Saiphon was short-lived. Leaving wasn’t easy. I regret having to step away but I’m deeply grateful for the experience. Playing alongside Bennie on vocals, Adian on guitar, Jude on bass, and the phenomenal Nicola on drums was inspiring. This lineup is the real deal, and they’ve made a lasting impact on me as both a musician and a person.
With new music on the way, I can’t recommend Saiphon enough. Give them a listen, they’re a band with heart, vision, and serious chops. They’ll always be a part of my musical journey and with a bit of luck our paths will cross once again.
Thank you, Saiphon
